Arthur A. Schuna, M.S., R.Ph., FASHP, is Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator in the Department of Pharmacy at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Mr. Schuna also serves as Residency Director of the primary care residency at the Veterans Hospital, and he describes his role in training the more than 107 residents who have chosen that program as the “crowning achievement” of his professional career. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Research and Education Foundation presented him with the 2007 Preceptor Award for his excellence in training pharmacy residents.

In addition to his responsibilities at the VA Hospital, Mr. Schuna is Clinical Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy, his alma mater. He earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy degrees at Wisconsin, and he completed an ASHP-accredited hospital pharmacy residency at University Hospital in Madison.

Mr. Schuna specializes in primary care with an emphasis in hypertension and rheumatology, and his research interests focus on the clinical evaluation of hypertension and arthritis treatments. He has published many articles and textbook chapters on these topics. Mr. Schuna has been active in ASHP and other professional organizations throughout his career. He has served on the Editorial Review Board for the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacy, and he has been a member of the ASHP Commission on Credentialing, writing groups for various revisions of ASHP residency standards for primary care pharmacy practice, and the APhA-ASHP-ACCP ad hoc committee to consider developing a petition for the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties to offer board certification in ambulatory care. He is a fellow of ASHP.

Frank Pucino, Pharm.D., FASHP, is Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacy Team Leader for the Clinical Center Pharmacy Department at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. He is in his 20th year of serving as a clinical pharmacy specialist for endocrinology, rheumatology, nephrology and cardiology specialty research clinics at NIH. Dr. Pucino also serves as Program Director for the Ambulatory Care Pharmacotherapeutics and Research Fellowship program at NIH.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Pucino is a member of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases/National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIDDK/NIAMS) Institutional Review Board for endocrinology and rheumatology. Previously he served on the U.S. Pharmacopeia’s Rheumatology-Clinical Immunology Expert Committee and the Food and Drug Administration’s Arthritis Advisory Committee. He is affiliated with various universities, both in the Washington, DC, area and across the United States.

Dr. Pucino earned his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Applied Health Sciences in Boston. Before beginning his career at NIH, Dr. Pucino was Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at North Dakota State University, during which time he completed a fellowship in geriatrics. He currently is pursuing a Master in Public Health degree at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Dr. Pucino is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist, and he is a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Dr. Pucino has been a peer reviewer for various medical and pharmacy associations and journals, serves or has served on several editorial boards, and is presently Chair of the Rheumatology Section of the Editorial Board for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy. He recently completed a term as a member of the ASHP Council on Therapeutics. In 2008, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy awarded him the Academic-Practice Partnerships for Learning Excellence (Crystal APPLE) Award, and the United States Public Health Service presented him with the Allen J. Brands Clinical Pharmacist of the Year Award.

Beth Resman-Targoff, Pharm.D., FCCP, is Clinical Professor in the Department of Pharmacy: Clinical and Administrative Sciences at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy in Oklahoma City. She is involved in many courses at the University, not only in the College of Pharmacy but also in courses for dental students and students in the physician associate program. In addition, Dr. Resman-Targoff serves as a preceptor for pharmacy residents and Doctor of Pharmacy students as part of her clinical practice in adult medicine at the Oklahoma University Medical Center, and, in 2003, she was honored by being named a Roche Preceptor of the Year. She has received numerous outstanding faculty awards from the Gamma Chapter of Rho Chi Honor Society, for which she has served as faculty advisor since 1988. She is currently the Region VI Councilor for the Rho Chi national organization.

Dr. Resman-Targoff earned her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo and did additional training at the Buffalo Veterans Hospital. Before joining the University of Oklahoma faculty, she served as Clinical Coordinator and Assistant Director of Clinical Services in the pharmacy department at Buffalo General Hospital and taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Resman-Targoff has authored many journal articles and book chapters, and she serves on the Editorial Board Panel on Rheumatology for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy. She is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
