The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The activity provides 1.0 hour (0.1 CEU) of continuing pharmacy education credit (program number 204-000-08-442-H01P).
Methods and Format
This is an online activity consisting of audio, presentation slides, post-test, and activity evaluation tool. Participants must view the entire presentation, take the activity post-test, and complete the course evaluation to receive continuing pharmacy education credit. A minimum score of 70% is required on the test for credit to be awarded, and participants may print their official statements of continuing pharmacy education credit immediately. The estimated time to complete this activity is one hour. This activity is provided free of charge
Target Audience
This continuing pharmacy education program was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists who practice in oncology or are interested in improving the identification and management of tumor lysis syndrome (TLS).
Activity Content
This web-based basics CE program, Understanding the Basics of Tumor Lysis Syndrome, serves as introduction to the oncologic emergency, tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), for participants planning to attend a Level 2 live symposium, webinar, or those who plan to participate in the web-based, Beyond the Basics symposium. It also serves as a basic introduction to TLS for those with an interest in the topic.
This web-based basics CE program will lay the groundwork for the Level 2 symposium content and will include information about assessing a patient’s risk for developing TLS, recognizing the clinical manifestations and laboratory values suggestive of TLS, and summarizing current treatment options
Learning Objectives
After participating in this knowledge-based educational activity, participants should be able to
- Assess a patient’s risk for developing tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), based on tumor type and associated predictive factors.
- Describe the clinical manifestations and laboratory values suggestive of TLS in at-risk patients.
- Summarize current treatment options for the prophylaxis and management of tumor lysis syndrome.
