We are excited you will be joining us as we celebrate more than five decades of excellence in clinical pharmacy with a focus on improving patient care and medication safety. This newsletter contains valuable information to help you prepare for and get the most out of the 2016 Midyear meeting. Meeting Location

The Mandalay Bay Convention Center includes the South Convention Center, North Convention Center, and the Events Center. All ASHP sessions, events, and exhibits will take place in the South Convention Center, unless otherwise noted in the onsite Program Book or ASHP LIVE app. View a map of Mandalay Bay to familiarize yourself with the property and learn more.

Weather and Attire
When packing, keep in mind that the weather in Las Vegas in early December has an average high of 60 degrees and an average low of 45 degrees. Hotels and convention centers are also cool, so ASHP highly recommends that you bring a sweater or dress in layers when attending sessions. Please pack accordingly.

Food & Beverage
Food and beverage outlets and concession stands are available in the South Convention Center, including the Exhibit Hall during open hours. There are also a variety of restaurants located within the Mandalay Bay Hotel, the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay Place, and the Luxor Hotel, just steps away from the convention center. Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available in the convention center meeting space and lobbies. To ensure fast speeds for all attendees, please limit your usage to 20 minutes. Once in the convention center, open internet settings and select SSID ashp2016 and enter password vegas2016.

If you prefer printed education materials, please print at home from your computer at www.ashp.org/midyear-educational-materials before the meeting. Paper materials will not be printable onsite at ASHP Network Connections computers.

    Stay connected to everything happening at the Midyear meeting with #ASHP16, the official hashtag for the meeting. Be sure to tag your social media posts on Twitter and Instagram with #ASHP16 for all attendees and online followers to see.
  • Enjoy the Thrill of the #ASHP16 Scavenger Hunt
    Embark on a scavenger hunt to find one of the most coveted items at the Midyear meeting. What are the items? And where can you find them? You'll have to follow @ASHPofficial on Twitter to find out. When you find an item, take it to the Membership Info Center for a $25 AMEX gift card.
  • Take the #ASHP16 Selfie Challenge
    Tap into your competitive side with the #ASHP16 Selfie Challenge. Choose from among three different levels of challenges. Complete each task within the challenge level you choose by snapping your selfies and then uploading them to Twitter tagged with #ASHP16 and the appropriate challenge-level hashtag. You’ll have until 9 p.m. on Tuesday to complete the level you choose. You'll find more details in the Let’s Get Social flyer in your registration bag.

IMPORTANT HOTEL, SHUTTLE, AND TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Housing Services (Orchid Event Solutions)
A representative from Orchid Event Solutions, ASHP's official housing company, is available to assist registrants on Saturday and Sunday in Bayside A Foyer, Level 1, from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Registrants may also call Orchid Event Solutions directly at 877-505-0675. Agents will be available to assist Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. ET.

Shuttle Buses
Saturday, December 3 Thursday, December 8
Complimentary shuttle bus service will be provided from official Midyear meeting hotels to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, except for the Delano, Four Seasons, and Luxor, which are within walking distance of the convention center. View the shuttle schedule .
NOTE: The shuttle schedule is subject to change based on usage, weather, and traffic. Early December is a busy time in Las Vegas, so check the ASHP LIVE app and the Midyear meeting News & Views, distributed at the meeting, for daily updates. ASHP does not provide shuttle service to and from the airport and the Midyear meeting hotels or to and from morning or evening symposia and social events supported by the pharmaceutical industry, universities, and other organizations.

Discounted Airport Transportation

Although ASHP does not provide shuttle service from the airport, discounted airport transportation to and from all official ASHP Midyear meeting hotels is available through Super Shuttle and LASxpress

NEW & NOTABLE

Live Intensive Studies and BCOP Clinical Sessions
Intensive Studies and BCOP Clinical Sessions will be held live throughout the Midyear meeting, and any meeting registrant may attend these thought-provoking and highly educational sessions. However, if you are board-certified, you must purchase the package(s) for your specialty to receive the recertification assessment and to claim the recertification credit. Packages are $50 for full Midyear meeting registrants and can be added during the registration process. If you are already registered for the meeting and would like to add a recertification package, please contact Customer Relations at 866-276-0681 or visit the Customer Relations desk when you arrive onsite at the meeting. 
If you are currently enrolled in the 3-year recertification subscription or the RRRP program, the Intensive Study Package is already included in your subscription. Please note that the BCOP Clinical Sessions are a repeat of the sessions presented in October 2016 at the ACCP Annual Meeting. Learners may claim credit only once. BCOP Clinical Sessions, while named differently, follow the same format as the Live Intensive Studies.

Poster Mentors for Students and Residents

Since 2010, the Student and Resident Poster Program has more than doubled in size. This year, we are on a mission to double the number of volunteer mentors.
We would like to invite you to volunteer as a Poster Mentor at the ASHP 2016 Midyear meeting to provide the benefit of your experience to students and residents who will truly value your time. It is a gracious gift that can help guide the careers of our students and residents on their own road to success. To volunteer, visit the Poster Hall on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. This is the place for residents and new practitioners to explore workplace challenges, mentorship, and clinical issues in an encouraging, motivational atmosphere. Sessions are designed specifically for current pharmacy residents as well as pharmacists in their first five years of clinical practice. First-Timer and Student Keynote

All Midyear meeting attendees are welcome to join best-selling author and cancer survivor Josh Sundquist as he shares stories about training for the Paralympics and playing jokes with his artificial leg. He will give audience members practical motivation and strategies for adapting to the workplace environment. As a person with a disability, his insights can help professionals understand and communicate effectively with coworkers with different abilities, backgrounds, or ages. Josh will share how his Paralympic training motto, 1mt1mt (one more thing, one more time), will help you put your best attributes to work and create a mindset that will bring you long-term success.

Stay current on FDA and USP updates at this year’s Pharmacy Leadership Forum

Mandalay Bay North Convention Center, Islander Ballroom I, Lower Level
Learn how technology can be used in the clean room to meet new patient safety best practice goals during the symposium Best Practices in Ensuring the Quality of Compounded Sterile IV Preparations: Updates on Legislation, Standards, and Beyond. An update on standards, specifically USP Chapter <797>, will educate pharmacists about how to maintain compliance. LGBTQ Networking Event

Match for Med Safety at the ASHP Foundation Annual Donor Match Reception

Midyear Meeting Presentation Will Empower Your Pharmacy Department’s Strategic Planning Efforts
Tuesday, December 6, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

The ASHP Foundation’s Center for Health-System Pharmacy Leadership will preview the trend predictions in the latest Pharmacy Forecast report at Pharmacy Forecast: Getting in Front of the Trends That Will Shape Your Future. This CE session will identify components of the external environment that are expected to have a major impact on hospital and health-system pharmacy practice over the next five years. The faculty will also present some of the report’s most important strategic recommendations, which will be helpful to pharmacists who are planning the future of their departments. After the session, from 11 a.m. to noon, visit the ASHP Foundation’s exhibit booth (#1465) to meet and speak with the report’s authors. Live Symposium and Webinar — The Changing Landscape of Hypercholesterolemia: The Emerging Role of Non-statin Therapies

With the recent approval of two PCSK9 inhibitors, treatment approaches to hypercholesterolemia are changing. Food and Facts on the Table at the ASHP-PAC Happy Hour

Join the members of the ASHP Advocacy & PAC Advisory Committee to learn more about ASHP’s work to build support for provider status, raise policymakers’ awareness about the impact of the rise in drug prices, and propose solutions to the opioid crisis. This is a contribute-what-you-can event for students. Cash donations of $5-20 will be accepted at the door. A contribution of $25 for practitioners is welcomed but not required.

Spotlight on Science

Precision Medicine: Using Big Data to Predict Drug Response and Optimize Care
